CSCE Accepting Application for Professor Position in Big Data Analytics

The Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering (CSCE) at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured full professor position with an anticipated start date of August 2016. We are interested in applicants with expertise in big data analytics, which includes (but is not limited to) data mining, machine learning, big data management, data and visual analytics, and cloud computing systems. Applicants with expertise in big data applications are also welcome. This position was created to support a campus-wide initiative to grow capabilities in the area of advanced data analytics. The successful candidate is expected to conduct collaborative research in the emerging interdisciplinary Institute of Advanced Data Analytics. Additional job responsibilities encompass all aspects of teaching, research, and service. 

Applicants should have an excellent track record in scholarship, sustained external funding, and teaching in the field of computer science, computer engineering, or a related discipline in an accredited, higher education environment. A Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, or related discipline is required. The successful candidate is expected to have national and international recognition in big data analytics.

The CSCE Department offers BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and in Computer Engineering as well as a PhD degree in Engineering with Computer Science and Computer Engineering as concentrations.  The enrollment has increased by 35% since 2012 to over 460 undergraduates and 65 graduate students. The department consists of 17 full-time faculty members and is housed in the state-of-the-art J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. Center for Academic Excellence with modern faculty offices, laboratories suitable for computational research, and class rooms. In addition, the Department is a strong participant in the university’s High Performance Computing (HPC) Center that allows its students and faculty access to additional computing resources.

The College of Engineering consists of eight departments that offer BS degrees in nine disciplines, MS degrees in ten disciplines, and a PhD degree in Engineering with several concentrations. The undergraduate enrollment in the college currently stands at over 3,000 and the graduate enrollment stands at almost 900. The college has 108 tenure/tenure-track full-time faculty associated with it and generally has externally funded annual research expenditures of approximately $20M. The college is a partner in a newly created NSF Engineering Research Center and multiple NSF I/UCRCs.
