Doctoral Graduation Checklist

  • Declaration of Intent
    • Prospective doctoral student must file an application or a request for a change of program for the first semester of graduate work beyond the master's degree. No requirement for the doctoral degree can be fulfilled until the student has been admitted to the doctoral program.
  • Turn in Doctoral Program Committee Form
    • This form consists of a major adviser and at least two other members of the current CSCE faculty. Submit this form to the CSCE Departmental Office immediately after or at the time of the submission of the Declaration of Intent.
  • Candidacy examinations
    • When the student has passed candidacy, the Graduate School must be notified in writing from the major adviser or department head.
  • Register for a minimum of 18 hours of doctoral dissertation
    • Each doctoral candidate must register for a minimum of 18 hours of doctoral dissertation. After passing candidacy examinations, doctoral students are required to be enrolled in a minimum of one hour of graded graduate course work or dissertation credit each semester until the student has graduated.
  • Turn in Doctoral Dissertation Title Form
    • This form consists of the title of the dissertation an approval by the dissertation director. Turn in this form to the CSCE Department Office at least ONE YEAR before the defense of the dissertation.
  • Turn in preliminary copies of dissertation
  • Announce dissertation defense
    • Announcement of a doctoral candidate's dissertation defense must be submitted to the Graduate School at least TWO WEEKS prior to the date of the defense. Please send email to Terri Fisher at tfisher@uark.edu.
  • Fill out appropriate forms
  • Turn in final copy of dissertation and forms
    • It is highly recommended that you present a preliminary copy to the Graduate School to check for formatting problems and adherence to page number specifications.
    • When the dissertation is approved by the committee, one unbound copy (on 100% cotton paper), with the appropriate forms is due to the Graduate School no later than TWO WEEKS before the degree is to be conferred. Also submit two unbound copies on plain paper to the CSCE Department Office.
  • Apply for degree
    • You can now apply for graduation online through your Student Center in UAConnect.
    • The link will appear in your Student Center in the Academics section under My Academics.
    • Your diploma will be sent six to eight weeks following the last day of classes.
    • Please note that a $95 graduation fee will be billed directly to your Student Account.
    • A late application fee of $25 will be charged if you apply after the posted deadline.
