Abstract: In this talk, Dr. Xiao will provide an overview of core programs in the Engineering directorate at the National Science Foundation, discuss several crosscutting programs among multiple directorates, and highlight insights on NSF-wide multidisciplinary funding opportunities. Then he will briefly discuss on how to write a good NSF research proposal, and how to avoid common problems with proposal writing. He will also share some lessons for good proposals and not-so-good proposals.

Brief Bio: Dr. Chengshan Xiao is a Program Director with the Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems in the Engineering Directorate at National Science Foundation. His program management duties include the following programs: Communications, Circuits, and Sensing Systems (CCSS), Enhancing Access to the Radio Spectrum (EARS), BIGDATA, Dynamic Data Systems, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC), Major Research Instrumentation (MRI), and Smart and Connected Communities (SCC).
